Really Final

CONCEPT: The concept is to show that we should give importance to the nature. Therefore, I make the handle look like a tree trunk and have roots that cuddle with the bag. This is like tree roots loving the bag because it helps reducing trashes on earth. As for the handle, I use green plastic bag because I want to show that there are green leaves at the top.

Sewing

Because I don't know how to sew, I went to my aunt house to ask for help. My aunt sew it and I am the assistant.

The process of making a bag start with creating a rough model about how it is going to look like. Therefore, I drew a model of the final bag. There are several problems in between in the process of making a model because my idea doesn't match with the reality. On of the problem is at the bottom of the bag where the strap line is not made to bend in my model so the bag would not have a nice final looking. Here are some pictures I took while making the model:

Final look

After thinking for a long time, I decide to take vinyl coated fiberglass insect screen to make a bag. As I see it,it is very strong and flexible. The color of the insect screen is in dark gray color.
The reason I use insect screen is that, when people change their insect screen, there are some parts are perfectly fine but because of a small disable part, the whole thing have to be thrown away. This is because insect screen can't be rain and can't be cut to wipe something off. Therefore, instead of throwing the sheet away, why not make a bag!? The bag will have a concept of fusing the nature with insect screen. Therefore, I decide to create a tree image as a handle holding the bottom bag part at the bottom.



The insect screen has a cross feature like this. The lines are all connected to each other.


Other than the insect screen the following materials are needed:

• green plastic bag
• thread
• needle and pin

How to Make a Bag

My first idea of using a recycle material to make a bag, I thought of T-shirt. However, serfing on the internet, I found out that there are so many design to make a bag out of T-shirt as it is very easy. T-shirt feature itself already has the look of a bag. This is one of the way to make a bag. HOW TO MAKE A T-SHIRT BAG:



News paper is another waste material that is widely made into bag. Here is an example of Newspaper bag.



There are several other bags that are made from recycle material. They are made by fusing, cutting, attatching, etc.


After watching "HOW TO MAKE A T-SHIRT BAG" I decided to make one... I make the following by a pink T-shirt

Let's look at the material

ice cream foam box: I've never seen a person making bag out of foam before. This is probably because of foam's property which break easily if bent. Because no one have used it before, I thought of slicing foam and make some new arrangement to it to make the foam bag more flexible. However, it would still break easily it pushed in a wrong way. Also, it is very hard to attach them to one another as a big needle would break it and a small one can only insert small thread. After looking at foam, I thought of the idea of using sponge as a bag. However, I don't have any old one at home...
dust roller box inside: The box already have a handle within itself. The form of it is already a bag,, so I couldn't make any change to it that could make it function better as a bag.
ice cream bag: Although it is flexible and nice looking but the idea of using ice cream bag isn't new. Therefore, I decide not to use it.
magazine: There are many parts of the magazine that can be used like the cover, the spine, and magazine paper. A stack of magazine paper can be a good way to make a bag as it is quite string and flexible. Spine is also a good one although it is quite hard and non flexible.
snack box: Snack boxes are quite hard just like a hard paper. It is slightly waterproof.
facial cream box: facial cream box are usually small therefore, there must be a combination of a lot of boxes to make a bag. These boxes come in different kind of colors, some are shiny and some are simply white. Therefore, combination of different colors can catch people's eyes.

growing bracelet: Growing bracelets are used a lot in concert and parties. Therefore, there are many of them wasted in a party. People usually throw them away after using them because they can no longer glow in the dark. The colors are pink, yellow, orange, and green. Because I am not sure about the chemical inside each tube, I don't think I should mess with them.
plastic bag: There are tons of plastic bag wasted in Thailand each day, some people throw them away and some keep them for other usage. However, they are not beautiful so people don't like carrying them around. The plastic bags are already made for carrying things so applying into a bag would not be hard.
marker bag: Marker packs are not found often as some people don't use them. However, it has a good flexible property that can turn into a bag.

scented gel package: In order to use make a scented gel pack into a bag, it has to be disassemble. There are many parts inside that have to be cut off in order to make a space for bag. Also, the plastic is quite thick so it hard to deal with.
plastic for food: This kind of plastic is quiet flexible but can also break if bend too much. I think that it is a good plastic to be made into a bag. Furthermore, there are usually pattern at the bottom and on top of them so bag with pattern can be made with it.
food cup:I think that the bottom part of cups and the lid can be used to make bag. The middle part that a rod shape and is very hard to bend and it not very applicable.
bath curtain: Bath curtain can be a good material to make a bag as it is strong and flexible. I think that the top part of curtains that contain hole that is usually put into loops can be a part to show that it is a used material.

elastic ban: Elastic ban are usually flexible but if it is exposed to sunlight too much, it will break. Therefore, it is not a good material for a bag that would be exposed to sun. Also, it one break them the whole bag is not able to function at all because the elastic ban will scatter everywhere.
slip: Buying slip are small and usually thrown away when looked at once. It is one of the object that is wasted often. Anyhow, it is torn easily and is not strong. Taking note on it is the only option to used it further. Making it into a bag would be a good idea.
fruits foam: Fruits are usually covered by this flexible weak foam to reduce the damage from getting a bad hit. Because it is weak, it can only be used to cover something but not hold it.
tissue center: Tissue center is just a hard paper rolled. It is quite strong but not so flexible.
candy package: It has the same property as a ice cream bag but it is smaller and therefore harder to deal with.

Shoe heel is made into a bag!!! I was surprised at how a soe can turn into a cool bag. Anyhow, the function may not be so well as there is little space inside because the sole take the space. Although I didn't think that this bag look special but the picture on the right shows how a bag can blend represent an object. In this case, the bag in the picture represent the tower.

This bag on the left shows a white bag with a screen of a handbag inside. It is good idea of making the audience look at the bag inside before noticing that it is just a screen of a big bag. On the right is just a transparent bag, it is simple but trendy. I think that the bag on the left is inspired by the bag on the right.

On the right picture, a skirt is made to look like a bag or it is the bag that made to look like a skirt. Because of this bag I think of a bag that can be worn as skirt.

The bag at the top is simple like an old school bag but the color, yellow, make the bag look interesting and eye0catching.

This bag is more like a basket and isn't very function-able. However, the appearance is eye-catching as there is combination between basket and bag.

The belt on the left somehow inspire the bag on the left that looks like a target.

The left bags are all made out from natural resource, wood. the shape of wood and different like of them are used to make a bag. Even though the design is nice but I think that they are not strong enough to work as a bag. The broken ceramic dishes are attached on a bag. I think that the bag is probably heavy. Anyhow, the idea of using broken ceramic that everyone would throw away has a recycling theme.

(On the right) Usually the structure of a bag is inside but it is on the outside for this one. Not only the overall look is strong and nice but using a metal cage is a new idea to make a bag. If the cage is already used then it can be considered a recycle work.

This bag a yin yang as a theme as they exist together but at the opposite side. However, the color is not black and white but orange and purple. the two colors combine with each other well. Furthermore, to show both colors, the designer doesn't simply take two color and put it on different side. Instead, a strap contain two colors and it is rotated to show another side which is another way to show them.

Metal tags are put onto the bag repeatedly. The arrangenent make the bag look good.

These are several bags that are made from old flags that people can no longer use. Not only each pattern are different and unique, the flags are also a strong material to use as a bag.

This bag is a thatched bag from several color of straps. It somehow look like a basket. I think that a recycle material like plastic bags or boxes can be a good material to make it.

These materials may give me some idea about what kind of material should be used to make bag. I am thinking that clothes is the best material to make bag because it is flexible and sew-able. Maybe, I am going to find a material that can no longer be used and can be cloth substitute.
